Planet Bean Retail Coffee Bar Manager 

Planet Bean Coffee is a fair trade certified and organic coffee roastery located in Guelph, Ontario.  Our growing business has a large wholesale division as well as two retail coffee bars with sit down facilities and a team of exceptional baristas.  We are looking for an individual to develop and manage our coffee bars. The Coffee Bars serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, coffee beans, and an assortment of baked goods and desserts.  We look forward to interviewing candidates with a passion for coffee, including single origins, blends and brewed masterpieces as well as a commitment to fair trade and the organic movement. 

Planet Bean is owned and operated by the Sumac Community Worker Co-operative which means that employees of Planet Bean are given an opportunity to become worker owners of the operation after one year of full time work. 

The successful candidate will ensure staff adhere to the Planet Bean Retail Training Manual, our health and safety program, Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS regulations. 

The Retail Manager will work with location specific Team Leaders. 

This full time position will report to the Planet Bean Retail Management Team and will have ten (10) to twenty (20) hourly baristas under supervision. The Planet Bean Coffee Bars operate seven days per week and the position requires working shifts hours. The successful candidate is also required to work weekends on a rotational basis. 

Job Responsibilities:

- Set effective and attainable goals to maximize sales and improve product margin

- Provide leadership, effective management and training for staff

- Ensure full adherence to all store standards while imposing company policies and procedures

- Implement and enforce inventory control, no stock outs

- Ensure over-all floor coaching and supervision is delivered consistently to ensure excellent customer service

- Perform daily / weekly operational audit

- Demonstrate excellent product knowledge and visual merchandising skills

- Perform inspections in each store to ensure company standards in visual presentation, stock replenishment and housekeeping are maintained

- Maintain equipment and facilities and organize repairs where necessary

- Overall retail staff scheduling

- Participate in hiring of retail staff

- Participate is Sales Projections, product costing and Financial Monitoring and analysis

- Advise and assist in the development of the menu and speciality drinks

- Organize and implement staff performance appraisals

- Ensure security measures are adhered to especially with regard to tills, deposits and staff personal belongings

- Facilitate regular meetings with staff providing an open forum for staff to be given new information

- Develop leadership skills and enable personal and career growth in the barista team

- Assist with the the development and implementation of special events, promotions and partnerships 

Applicants Should Have:

- Post secondary education plus minimum three (3) years of related management experience in a hospitality or retail café environment

- Proven financial management skills

- Strong supervisory skills and capable to motivate, lead and develop staff

- Excellent customer service skills

- Excellent time-management skills and problem solving abilities

- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with diverse personalities

- An ability to multi-task

- Willing to accommodate flexible work schedule

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) 

In this role, the Retail Manager will oversee the day-to day activities in support of the Planet Bean strategic planning initiatives to ensure a productive and profitable operation, while helping to promote an overall corporate image of excellence through a strong work ethic, leadership by example, and the consistent delivery of excellent customer service and store visual presentation throughout the operation. 

The position starts at $14.42/hr
